Our Story
Aloha everyone! 🌺
We are Auntie Cierra, Uncle Jason, Jax, Kylo and Rollo — the family behind Nummy Nums Organic Pet Treats Kapolei.
First and foremost, mahalo nui loa for being here. Truly. Whether you’ve been supporting us since the very beginning, discovered us at a local pop-up or pet expo, found us in one of our retail partners across Hawaiʻi, or simply stumbled across our little business online — thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being part of our journey.
Nummy Nums began in 2021 from a place of love, worry, and the desire to do better for our own dog.
Back in 2020, our beloved Jax was diagnosed with pancreatitis. If you’ve ever had a pet go through a health scare, then you know how overwhelming and emotional it can feel. Suddenly, every ingredient mattered. Every treat mattered. We wanted to continue spoiling him and celebrating him the way every dog deserves, but without constantly fearing another flare-up or wondering what hidden ingredients were inside the treats we were buying.
So, we started creating our own.
What began as homemade recipes crafted carefully in our Kapolei home kitchen for Jax slowly turned into something much bigger than we ever imagined. As we continued learning, testing, researching, and creating, we realized there were so many other pet parents looking for treats made with simpler, more thoughtful ingredients too.
Then came Kylo — our sweet, goofy little shadow who quickly became another huge part of the heart behind Nummy Nums. Between Jax’s sensitive tummy and Kylo’s endless enthusiasm for taste-testing absolutely everything, the boys became our inspiration, our quality control team, and honestly, the face of our brand.
And then there’s Rollo — the newest, yet not-so-new, addition to our family. Rollo is our beloved hānai son, whom we proudly share with Auntie Leah of Dis-and-Bark. Long before Nummy Nums existed, Rollo was the very first and oldest member of Auntie Leah Lukela’s family and the dog who inspired the creation of Dis-and-Bark itself.
Over the years, Rollo has become such a special part of our extended ʻohana and has seamlessly found his place within our little pack. Whether he’s snuggled up for afternoon naps with Jax and Kylo, soaking up the sunshine in the yard, joining Uncle Jason for fishing adventures at the beach, or happily chomping down on Nummy Nums treats, Rollo brings so much love, joy, and personality into our lives. We truly couldn’t imagine our family without him, and we are so grateful to share in loving him alongside Auntie Leah.
As a local Native Hawaiian-owned small business based right here on Oʻahu, every single order means the world to us. Our treats are handcrafted in small batches with love, care, and intention using fresh, dog-safe ingredients and minimal processing whenever possible. We believe our pets are family, and they deserve treats made with the same level of care we would want for our own.
While I (Auntie Cierra) am the one behind the recipe development, baking, decorating, dehydrating, packaging, and late nights in the kitchen, Uncle Jason has been my biggest supporter through it all — helping with the heavy lifting, encouraging me during difficult moments, assisting wherever needed, and always believing in this dream even during the hardest seasons.
And there definitely have been hard seasons.
Between 2023 and part of 2024, Nummy Nums took a step back while we navigated life and regrouped both personally and professionally. To be completely honest, we never expected the amount of love and support we would receive when we reopened in June 2024. The response from our community has been beyond anything we could have imagined.
From seeing customers return after months away, to watching dogs get excited for our treats at markets and events, to expanding into pet stores across Hawaiʻi and even reaching customers on the mainland — every milestone has felt surreal to us. Even now, we still have moments where we look at each other and ask, “Is this real life?”
One of the biggest reminders of that overwhelming support came during the 2026 Hawaiʻi Pet Expo, where we experienced more love, support, sell-outs, long lines, and encouragement than we could have ever prepared for. Moments like those reminded us why we started this in the first place — not just to make cute treats, but to create something meaningful for pets and the people who love them.
At the end of the day, Nummy Nums will always be more than just pet treats to us. It’s our family, our passion, our creativity, our late nights, our learning experiences, our growth, and our way of sharing aloha with other pet lovers one bag at a time.
To every single person who has supported us — whether through an order, a kind message, sharing our posts, recommending us to friends, stopping by our booth, carrying us in your store, or simply believing in us — mahalo nui loa. Your support has truly changed our lives, and we will never take it for granted.
We are so incredibly grateful to continue growing this little dream of ours and cannot wait to keep creating fun, adorable, and thoughtful goodies for your fur babies for many years to come.
With love and aloha,
Auntie Cierra, Uncle Jason, Jax & Kylo 🩵
